I believe the best critique groups are those formed of like minds. However, I have yet to come across a group specific to Paranormal Romance, with available space. So, I am starting my own.
To advise, support, and mentor each other in the craft of writing. To share information and skills in a safe environment of peers.
The critique group will consist of 7 members. These members will come from 3 categories (Adult, New Adult, and Young Adult) but only 1 genre/sub-genre…paranormal romance.
This will not be a group for mincing words. This group is about honing our writing skills. If you want someone to spend their time telling you your writing is perfect and should be published…this group is not for you.
I have learned a lot about writing paranormal romance in the last year and a half, and I’d like to share my knowledge. I work with a wonderful freelance editor who has been my guide, and I have two wonderful critique partners, but none of them are paranormal romance writers.
If you’re interested in joining my PNR critique group, here’s what you need to do.
1) Send your query, one page synopsis, and first 10 pages of an unpublished MS to firstname.lastname@example.org. If your MS is a WIP (not complete), then contact me and I’ll decide what you should send.
Times New Roman 12 pt. font. Double spaced pages. All embedded in the body of the email. (If you attach a file I will NOT open it. I will delete your application.) Email Subject Line: Ghosts of Romance Application: (title of your MS in all caps)
Example: Ghosts of Romance Application: EXTRAORDINARY ELEMENTS
2) Include a short bio about yourself in your email. I’m looking for things like: how long have you been writing, how many books have you written, do you belong to any professional writing groups, what are your goals as a writer. All applicants must be 18 years or older.
If you’d like more information about me and my writing, check out my bio page.
I will select individuals from the first round of applications (Deadline Jan. 3, 2014). These writers will be given a two page writing sample to critique and send back to me. I will chose the seven members based on their writing abilities and critique skills. This second round is to assure that everyone involved in Ghosts of Romance is here to participate, not simply benefit. You will receive wonderful critiques on your writing, but you will be expected to give critiques to other members as well. If you are unsure how to format a critique of a writing sample, contact me.
The deadline for applications is January 3, 2014.
Thanks for stopping by. I can’t wait to get to know you and your novel.
